Annual Cresco Historical Stewardship Award

The Mount Pleasant Historical Commission's Cresco Historical Stewardship Award is presented annually to an individual, group, or organization that has done exemplary work in studying, preserving, restoring, or promoting the history of Mount Pleasant. The award consists of a Cresco Medal and oļ¬ƒcial Town of Mount Pleasant Proclamation. “Cresco” is the Town motto and translates to “We Grow”.

Can you think of an individual or organization deserving of this award?

Please nominate individuals, groups, or organizations that preserved and/or restored a historic home, building, or site; written books, articles, and papers that focus on Mount Pleasant's physical or cultural heritage; or implemented activities that promote the stewardship of Mount Pleasant's physical or cultural heritage (festivals, walking tours, historical reenactments, performances, historical arts and crafts, and archaeological investigations that meet professional standards).

Last year’s recipient was the late Captain Wayne Magwood. A life-long shrimper, Capt. Wayne was recognized for his family’s multi-generational dedication to the history of Mount Pleasant and the health and conservation of our waterways. Past Cresco Award recipients were Ms. Vanessa Hill (2019), the Alhambra Garden Club (2018), Walter G. Brown, Jr. (2017) and Mary Julia Royall (2016).

Official nomination forms are available on the Historical Commission page of the Town of Mount Pleasant's website. The deadline for nominations is November 15, 2021. The Award will be presented by the Historical Commission to the honoree at the Town Council meeting in December 2021.
