Quick Facts Friday 2018.02.16
Posted on Feb 16th, 2018

On Saturday, February 17th, the Greater Goodwill A.M.E. Church located at 2818 Highway 17 North in Mount Pleasant will host a military symposium presented by African-American Generals of the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Army and a Rear Admiral of the U.S. Navy. Each is a graduate of South Carolina State University. We can expect to hear about their entrance into the military upon graduation, their views of the military as they advanced, and how their success has inspired other graduates to aspire to a military career.
This and next week's Black History Month events start at 7PM and are free, family-friendly and open to the general public. For more information about each event, be sure to read the Quick Fact Friday that will be released the day before or contact Chris Luly, Senior Planner and Staff Liaison to the Historical Commission, at (843) 884-1229 or cluly@tompsc.com.
South Carolina State University
According to SC State's website, "Since 1896, South Carolina State University has maintained a legacy of excellence in education. We have been home to generations of scholars and leaders in business, military service, government, athletics, education, medicine, science, engineering technology and more. Located in Orangeburg, S.C., SC State was founded as a land grant college with a mission of providing education and service to the citizens of the state. In its first century, SC State was a leader in education and continues to lead the way into the next century."
The Town of Mount Pleasant Historical Commission releases Quick Fact Fridays about the history of Mount Pleasant and about the Commission, its programs and activities. Historical facts are drawn largely from the Our History section of the Town's website and the Commission's own Mount Pleasant Historical website and app. Follow their links by clicking on the images below to discover what makes Mount Pleasant such a distinctive historical place!  To receive Quick Fact Friday messages click here to register.
