Marais update from Hurricane Matthew - 10/14/2016

Marc Retchin from Marais at Seaside Farms
I'm glad to share that Marais fared very well as Matthew whipped through. As expected, leaves, branches, some minor house trim was covering the streets. From what I know, some garages and elevator shafts took on some water but more in the form of puddles vs. flooding. I know of no broken windows but let us know if you did incur more damage. A few bushes in common areas and yards were blown over as well as a few pine trees by the pool. Greenery will be removing those trees over the next couple weeks at no additional cost.

The greatest impact was seen in the wetlands behind Sea Palms Crescent where approximately 10 pine trees were blown over. No structural damage was caused by those trees and we will work with PMS to assess options and estimates for possible cutting and/or removal . We may be limited on options as Army Corps of Engineers has strict guidelines for wetlands regarding removal of roots, and disruption of soil caused by plows, backhoes and dragging of heavy items such as logs. Damage to existing landscaping will also need to be considered. We will keep you posted as more information is gathered.

Greenery completed a first cleanup blowing away leaves and removing many branches, but have had to shift priority to customers who were severely impacted. Additional cleanup will continue in the coming weeks. If there are other areas of Marais, that you feel need attention from the storm, please contact PMS and they will inform the proper board and committee members for guidance.

Thx to all who shared updates and information during the storm.

Thank you for naming Charleston, South Carolina the No. 1 City in the World!
Posted on Jul 7th, 2016
Charleston, South Carolina has been voted the No. 1 City in the World and No. 1 City in the U.S. and Canada in the Travel + Leisure 2016 World's Best Awards! We extend a sincere thank you to everyone who voted.

Travel + Leisure Editor Nathan Lump said, “Charleston is a remarkably dynamic place, so it's no surprise that it has achieved its highest ranking ever in our survey as this year's best city in the world. The city has managed to preserve all the qualities for which it is widely known—a prime coastal setting, historic architecture, friendly locals—while also nurturing a creative culture that is making it one of the most notable destinations for those who seek out interesting restaurants, bars, and shops that highlight a dedication to distinctive craft.”

Join in the 2016 World’s Best Awards conversation with @TravelLeisure and @ExploreCHS, and share your love for the Holy City by tagging #TLWorldsBest and #ExploreCharleston.
